Goodwin Receives Excellence in Civics Education Teacher Award

 (Maricopa) Each year the United States Circuit Courts for the Ninth District hosts a Civics Contest for high school students and this year’s topic was, “150 Years after the ratification of the 14th Amendment, What Does Equal Protection Mean to Students?” Awards are given to students in each of the states represented by the U.S. 9th District Circuit Court.  Additionally, awards are presented to select teachers who “advance civics education, for example by encouraging students to participate in the Ninth Circuit Civics Contest, developing or implementing civics curricula, field trips, and special projects.”


On Wednesday May 16th Maricopa High School History Teacher – Mr. Jason Goodwin received the following notice, “Congratulations! You have been selected to receive a teacher award for Excellence in Civics Education. You will receive a prize of $350 and a certificate.  The District of Arizona is hosting two awards receptions to present our finalist essays and videos and honor our teacher award recipients … Congratulations and thank you for participating in the civics contest.”
